Programs

Senior Book Break

Senior Book Break is a popular program unique to our library. It's not like other book clubs that ask everyone to read the same book. Instead, readers gather together for good conversations about many different books, authors, and genres.

Each meeting begins with a topic—suggested by participants at the previous meeting—but the conversation takes us all over the literary map!

If you enjoy reading, this is the book club for you. We discuss books in a casual setting over coffee and refreshments, and most of us leave with a new book or two on our "to-read" list.

We meet from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. on the second Tuesday of each month. To find out about upcoming topics and receive a list of the books discussed at each meeting, join our newsletter!

Next meeting: Tuesday, October 10, 2017
Topic: Families

Storytime

The Grover Beach Community Library is now offering group storytime every Monday at 10:30 a.m. starting on January 11th. Children of all ages are welcome for some stories, songs and surprises in English and Spanish. This is a chance to introduce children to their local library, enjoy a fun story by one of our special readers, and take a big step towards the love of reading and books. Come join us for Storytime!

Heather Houston was one of our eager readers in the Youth Summer Reading Program, finishing a total of 18 books -- 3 times the amount needed to win a prize! Heather is pictured here, with our dedicated children's librarian Maria Dowdy, sharing one of her favorite books at Storytime.

Reading to Rover

Reading to Rover is currently on an end of summer break and will resume on Wednesday, August 23.

Every Wednesday between 3 and 4 p.m., Caring Canines therapy-trained dogs and handlers will visit the Grover Beach Community Library to work with children who would benefit from practice outside the home or classroom with beginning reading skills. Reading to a dog will promote reading skills while building self-confidence. Drop in and try it out!

Summer Reading

The Grover Beach Community Library's 2017 Summer Reading Program for grades K-6 concludes with a Closing Ceremony on Saturday, July 22, at 2:30 p.m. All books must be read and returned by then in order to be counted. All participants who have read at least one book as part of the 6 week program are invited to the Closing Ceremony. Those who have read at least 6 books will get a $5 gift card to In-N-Out Burger! Come to the library to mark your latest progress on the bulletin board, and remember this year's theme of Summer Fun!
